Install DJ Sync

About five minutes, once. You’ll need a Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later (Apple silicon or Intel), Rekordbox 6 or 7, an internet connection, and about 400 MB of free space for DJ Sync’s tools.

  1. Download DJ Sync

    One free download. No account.

    Download for Mac

  2. Move it to Applications

Open the downloaded DJ-Sync disk image and drag DJ Sync onto Applications. Then eject the disk image.

  3. Open it, then allow it once

Double-click DJ Sync in Applications. macOS stops it the first time and shows a message like this:

“DJ Sync” Not Opened — Apple could not verify “DJ Sync” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy.

Click Done. Don’t click Move to Trash.

    Now allow it:

    1. Open System Settings (Apple menu → System Settings).
    2. Click Privacy & Security in the sidebar and scroll down to Security.
    3. Next to “DJ Sync” was blocked to protect your Mac, click Open Anyway.
    4. Confirm with Touch ID or your Mac password, then click Open Anyway once more.

Why does macOS ask? DJ Sync is free and isn’t registered with Apple’s paid developer program, so macOS asks you to confirm it once. You won’t see this again: DJ Sync updates itself in the background. On macOS 14 the first message reads “can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software”, and the steps in System Settings are the same.
  4. Let DJ Sync set itself up

A setup window walks you through three short steps:

    • Tools. DJ Sync downloads yt-dlp, spotdl, ffmpeg, deno and uv from their official sources and checks each one. Takes a couple of minutes.
    • Rekordbox. It finds your Rekordbox library and backs it up first. That untouched copy is kept forever. You also pick where downloads go (Music › DJ Sync by default).
    • Connect your phone or assistant. Connect Telegram (free), Claude (free plan), an iPhone Shortcut (free) or ChatGPT (paid plan), or skip and do it later from the menu.
  5. You’re done

DJ Sync lives in your menu bar. You’ll get a notification when a request comes in and when tracks land in Rekordbox.

If your menu bar is crowded, the icon can hide behind the notch. Open DJ Sync again from Applications and its window appears instead.
